LOCATION: At Jalan Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai, fronting Miri's Brighton Beach. Some 10 minutes from Miri Airport (MYY).
This hotel is now known as Miri Marriott Resort & Spa. You can still read about my review from 2003 when the hotel was still under the Royal Rihga chain.
DESCRIPTION: The perennial favorite among leisure and business travelers alike. Miri (recently received the national accolade as a resort city), is the well-known stopover for the marvelous wonders of Mulu National Park and Niah Cave. As a matter of fact, Royal Rihga Miri is affiliated with its sister resort, Royal Rihga Mulu.
However, I do feel the resort is quite old. Perhaps it is among the first few resorts established in Miri, until recently new business-class hotels sprouting in Miri city center such as Mega Hotel, Grand Palace Hotel and Parkcity Everly.
I stayed in a "chalet" room (that's what they called it). Very spacious, with a decent sea view and parquet floor (yes, timber-strip floors weren't the in thing just yet). The pool is huge - overlooking the not-too-appealing Brighton Beach which was filled with some muddy sludge.
Recent days have seen that the Marriott hotel chain took over the hotel management, which included some renovations. It was probably for the best for the hotel owner. You can read about the new Miri Marriott Resort & Spa in this website.

MY VERDICT: A nice relaxing resort, but was really in need of renovation. Hence the Marriott finally came to the rescue.
