LOCATION: In Mukim Sungai Karang along the stretch of Pantai Beserah. About 20 minutes north of Kuantan or 35 minutes from Kuantan Airport (KUA).
DESCRIPTION: This 4-star resort is set in the rustic village setting of Beserah (which also the name of Beserah beach which is quite popular among the locals). There are 160 rooms in the resort which consists of one Suite De Governor (not too impressed with that kind of foreign name), one Prestige Suite, one Exclusive Suite, one Executive Suite, 12 Premier rooms, 64 Deluxe rooms, 67 Superior rooms, and 13 Standard rooms.
In general, the Superior room which I stayed in was quite OK. I could do away with the cheap-looking bedsheet and wooden furniture. In any case, the room is equipped with IDD phone, attached bathroom, individual air conditioner, mini bar, colour TV, hairdryer, coffee-making facility, etc.
I was quite impressed with the swimming pools (yes, not one, but two of them). These free-formed pools are nicely landscaped with tropical greenery and man-made islands. Not too shabby. There are also jacuzzi and kid's pool adjacent to the main ones. The resort also hosts a water sports activity centre called the Starfish Club, which offers PADI scuba diving certification apart from the regular activities commonly associated with this type of beach-fronting resort. Apart from that, there is also a nice health centre where traditional massages are provided for resort guests.
The main restaurant at the resort is the De Rhu Cafe which is an all-day outlet and De Rhu Cafe Japanese Touch which provides Japanese delicacies. At the lobby, you can find the Merpati Lounge, as well as Zoom 2000 which is a discotheque of some sort. The Sunken Bar is quite a neat cocktail outlet located by the beautiful poolside.
Room rates start at about RM150 per night for a Superior or Deluxe room and further up for the suites.
