LOCATION: The hotel is located at Jalan Mahmood in the city of Kota Bharu. It is close to the Cultural Centre as well as the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium.
DESCRIPTION: There are 178 rooms in this hotel. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, colour TV, IDD phone, hair dryer in the attached bathroom, mini bar, coffee-making facility, etc. To me, the room was quite average and nothing particularly worth mentioning. The room view was blocked by a massive air-conditioning station, though I bet at even higher floors, there is nothing much to see in this city hotel anyway.
The facilities at the hotel include a gift shop selling traditional stuff, a travel agent office (that seemed to be heavily promoting tours to the near island of Perhentian), the Cerana Coffeehouse where I had my daily buffet breakfast and the Jade Chinese Restaurant.
The swimming pool was not particularly interesting. It is surrounded by the unappealing hotel buildings, so it is probably not the ultimate outdoor experience you will be seeking for. Similarly, the lobby and reception areas do not seem to justify the 4-star rating that the hotel is accorded, perhaps more than a decade ago.
Nonetheless, the rooms do come cheaply. You can get one night stay here for below RM150 per room.

MY VERDICT: A very run-down hotel. Very affordable.
