LOCATION: Located at Pulau Rawa (in Johor Marine Park), some 1 hour from Mersing jetty by speed boat. The resort will usually arrange for speed boats at the jetty, from which the journey takes slightly more than 30 minutes. I have also seen visitors purchasing their own tickets from the regular boat operators (such as Bluewater Ferry) that ply between Mersing and Pulau Tioman, with a requested stop at Pulau Rawa.
DESCRIPTION: Throughout these years, Rawa Safaris Island Resort has grown into an international class resort in the idyllic private island of Rawa in Johor. I recalled back in 1998 that the resort was fairly basic, but it has since been renovated with additional facilities and lodging options.
Currently, the resort has 72 rooms of varying standards and sizes. The units are built on either the hill side, or a few metres from the beach, or right fronting the ocean. Each room is equipped with air-conditioner and attached bathroom except the for Budget Room (6 units).
The breakdown of room types and the number of units:
- The hill side; 6 Garden units, Long House (8 units), Studio (10 units), Hillside (20 units), Hillside Family Suite (2 units) - The beach side;, 1 Beach Front unit, Semi Detach (2 units), Beach Suite (9 units), Beach View Suite (4 units) - The water front; 1 Coral Garden Suite unit, New Water Front (1 unit), Water Front (1 unit), Sea Breeze (1 unit).
The rooms are well-appointed with timber strip floors, plush interior fittings equipped with large windows and modern amenities. There is one restaurant in the resort, at which I had quite a sumptuous seafood dinner during my visit.
